For more than 20 years, Davide Cortorreal has been part of the Swiss legal firm Lenz & Staehelin. OnPrem as knock-out-criteria
Lenz & Staehelin can rely on decades of experience and prefers to keep the reins of action in its own hands. The company’s ethos therefore also includes working with its own internal experts rather than buying in expertise from outside. The same demands are also placed on the company’s IT.
The requirement for an e-signature solution was correspondingly specific: the solution had to be operated on premise. “This is not possible with all solutions on the market,” says Cortorreal. A search of Swisscom’s partner list put the IT specialist on the right track. “In all legal matters, we naturally use the highest-quality signature,” says the IT manager. “So we needed not only a solution that we could run on our in-house servers, but one that could also do qualified electronic signatures.” In this segment, says Davide Cortorreal, MOXIS from XiTrust was unrivaled.
The use of electronic signatures at Lenz & Staehelin is driven not least by the clients. Some of them work exclusively with electronic signatures and expect this from all business partners accordingly. “But eSignatures are also already standard in many places when dealing with authorities and institutions,” observes Davide Cortorreal.
European data security
As a specialist in Swiss business law, Lenz & Staehelin is the first point of contact for foreign clients in Switzerland. To this end, the lawyers keep a very close eye on the impact of EU legislation on companies in this country. This is one of the reasons why a European solution was sought that is legally impregnated against data queries by US authorities, which does not apply to signature providers based in the USA.
